In 2005, Equality Maryland Led Efforts to Successfully
Pass the Following Legislation in 2005:
Medical Decision Making Act of 2005
This legislation would create a registry for life partners and guarantee them decision making authority on a number of health care and after death decisions.
This legislation would add lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people to the state’s existing hate crimes law.
Transfer & Recordation Tax
This legislation would eliminate the taxes that partners have to pay when one is added to the deed of the other partner’s property on the home they share. At least one jurisdiction currently exempts these transactions from the recordation tax.
