A bill that seeks to prohibit discrimination in the areas of housing, employment, licensing and commercial leasing against transgender Marylanders was scheduled to be voted on today in the Maryland House's Health and Government Operations Committee. The vote, however, did not happen due to a "procedural hold" brought forth by Republican Del. Susan Krebs (Carroll County).

Members of Maryland's diverse faith community have signed Equality Maryland's declaration of religious support for marriage equality.

Take action today by signing your name as a clergy member who supports full marriage equality for committed gay and lesbian couples in Maryland.

Please join Equality Maryland, members of the faith community and supporters of HB235 - Gender Identity Anti-Discrimination Act - this Tuesday, March 8th at 7:30 AM for a Prayer Breakfast at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis. We will meet, greet, share wisdom, proclaim public advocacy, and raise our voices in diverse, grace-filled praise for equality.

Catherine Hyde, the Transgender Network Coordinator for PFLAG Howard County and a mom of a 17-year-old, is planning to testify at the House Committee hearing on HB 235, the Gender Identity Anti-Discrimination Act. Below is her story:

As a member of the clergy actively working with congregants in Harford County, I feel it is important to be an advocate on behalf of equal treatment for all.  I am often compelled to take my ministry to Annapolis each legislative session in hopes that Maryland, as the "Free State" will adhere to laws that help it come to its fullness by honoring the dignity of all its constituents.  I am blessed to be serving a congregation that supports this advocacy.
