Meet Maryland Families: Mara Drummond

My name is Mara Drummond, and I’m a single parent and an experienced software developer living in Maryland.  Though I have not been discriminated against in employment, I have seen many of my transgender friends struggle to stay employed or find employment. I feel strongly that all transgender people should be afforded the same employment protections that my family and I have benefited from. My experience as a supervisor in the workplace tells me that all employees or candidates for employment should be judged solely by their ability to perform the tasks assigned to them and the value they bring to the workplace. Now is the time to finally put to rest the antiquated concept of discriminating against employees on the basis of their gender identity and not by their ability to perform their work.
